Last year, Americans alone were forecast to spend around $10.1 billion on presents that recipients did not want, with an estimated 53 percent of adults expecting at least one unwanted gift at an average of $72 apiece. But the market is shifting. Consumers are steering more spending toward ethical choices. In the U.K., nearly 70 percent of adults bought a Fairtrade product in the past year despite inflation. New data from OfferUp found that more than eight out of ten Americans will gift something secondhand this year.
