Adidas by Stella McCartney’s Earth Explorer

Share

In their newest sustainable collaboration for AW21, Adidas and Stella McCartney debut the Earth Explorer campaign—versatile pieces for ‘next-gen explorers.’

Stella McCartney and Adidas is the fashion love story we didn’t know we needed. Since 2005 their collaborations have brought us elevated athleisure with a sustainable twist.

The newest collection was created to support ‘wandering activists’ and encourage consumers to reconnect with nature. Each piece has a combination of Adidas’ technology with McCartney’s couture design style to create a collection that is ready to step right off the runway and into the wilderness. The pieces were designed with this in mind and are crafted to withstand the outdoors.

In a release, McCartney stated: “When creating this campaign, we really wanted to be able to support next-gen explorers on their adventures within nature through a multi-functional collection. The drop includes some really tactical and versatile pieces, including the sleeping bag puffer jacket, all-in-one shiny bodysuit, and winter COLD.RDY boots that will support activists as they explore with its high-fashion, performance, and protective qualities.”

Adidas by Stella McCartney & sustainability

Stella McCartney has been a pioneer in advancing sustainable fashion, especially at the luxury level. The brand has embodied, and led the charge, since its inception in 2001. It was no surprise that McCartney brought that same approach to her partnership with Adidas.

Over the years the dynamic design duo has given us sleek yoga wear made from Parley Ocean Plastic yarns, gym bags created from 100% recycled polyester, and beachwear crafted with regenerated ECONYL yarn. Their new collection is no different. Innovative and sustainable materials are found throughout the line and include Primegreen, a proprietary Adidas material made up of a minimum of 40 percent recycled content; and Primeblue, an upper containing at least 50 percent of Parley ocean plastic.

An easy favorite of the collection, the Sleeping Bag Puffer Jacket, uses 100 percent recycled polyester and WIND.RDY, a fabric designed to protect against weather conditions. Another piece that instantly made our wish list is the chic All-in-one Shiny Bodysuit which is made from 100 percent recycled fabric and also features adidas’ AEROREADY technology to support comfort and drying. The perfect addition to the new collection is the Winter COLD.RDY Boots, which were designed to keep those toes warm with a built-in insulated sock developed with Primeblue.

Adidas by Stella McCartney hits the Met Gala

If you tuned into the Met Gala last week you probably noticed the “Stella girls” were aplenty. However, unlike years past when we’ve seen her runway couture designs gracing the red carpet, at least for us fashion-obsessed, this year, her girls donned clothing from the new collection with Adidas. Amongst the ‘next-gen explorers’ to hit the event was Kamala Harris’ stepdaughter, and model, Ella Emhoff, who was also chosen to be the face of the new collection.

Without knowing the collection it is easy to wonder how athleisure possibly fits in at one of fashion’s most glamorous nights, but let’s be real, this is not your average athleisure. Emhoff strolled the iconic steps in a red embellished bodysuit, matching red trousers, and Earthlight trainers from the Earth Explorer collection.
