Batsheva Hay Turns Reclaimed Coyuchi Quilts Into a Limited-Edition Jacket Collection: ‘It’s a Message’

Home goods label Coyuchi and designer Batsheva Hay launch a limited-edition capsule of upcycled quilted jackets made from reclaimed organic home textiles, available now for Earth Day.

That tattered quilt at the foot of your bed just got a second life.

Coyuchi, the luxury organic home brand founded in 1991, has partnered with New York designer Batsheva Hay for a first-ever fashion collaboration: a limited-edition capsule of upcycled jackets launching today on Earth Day. Each piece is crafted entirely from materials sourced through Coyuchi’s 2nd Home Renewed program — the brand’s take-back initiative that has diverted more than 165,000 lbs of textile waste from landfills since its launch in 2017, when Coyuchi became the first home textiles brand in the U.S. to offer such a program. Reclaimed quilts, restored sheets, and renewed shams become the raw material here, each jacket unique by nature of the fabrics themselves.

For Coyuchi, a brand making 100 percent certified organic home goods since long before sustainability became a selling point, the collaboration marks its first move into fashion — and a considered one at that.

A design vision built on shared philosophy

Hay’s label is built on the same instinct. The CFDA member and former attorney has been working with vintage and limited-run cotton quilting fabrics since founding her eponymous label — buying materials online and at local markets, often in quantities so small that each piece in a run is inherently one-of-a-kind. Her design practice has always circled back to materials that already carry some history. The Coyuchi collaboration is a logical next step: organic, high-quality home textiles with their own story, now remade into something new.

“I’ve always been inspired by textiles that already have a history — vintage fabrics, quilted cottons, and materials that feel nostalgic but can be reimagined in a modern way,” Hay said in a statement. “Coyuchi’s fabrics are incredibly high quality and always sustainably made, so this project was an exciting way to create something new while giving these beautiful materials another life.”

The vintage-inspired silhouettes, available in two colorways and limited in quantity almost by definition since the upcycled source material is finite, will be sold at coyuchi.com and at the Batsheva flagship store in New York City, priced at $498 each. No two jackets are identical, a function of both the handwork involved and the varied origins of the reclaimed fabrics.

“Coyuchi has always believed that materials we surround ourselves with should be both beautiful and responsibly made,” Vicky Grahan, President of Coyuchi, said in a statement. “Collaborating with Batsheva felt like a natural fit for us to bring that vision into the fashion world and transform our textiles into wearable art. It’s more than a jacket, it’s a message that circularity can be exciting and creative for the consumer while making a positive impact on the planet.”
