As Fashionphile celebrates 25 years, its 2024 Ultra-Luxury Resale Report takes both a look back at the sales and trends of the last year, and a peek at the future.
Fashionphile is celebrating a milestone with its newly released 2024 Ultra-Luxury Resale Report, marking a quarter-century of leadership in the luxury resale market. Since its launch in 1999, Fashionphile has pioneered the re-commerce space, propelling ultra-luxury fashion into the digital age and reshaping the secondhand landscape. As it moves into the next twenty-five years, Fashionphile continues to advance with groundbreaking innovations in technology and circularity, positioning itself as a steward of authenticity and accessibility in luxury goods.
In 2023, the global secondhand market hit an estimated value of $197 billion, with projections suggesting it will surpass $297 billion by 2026. With this growth, however, comes the challenge of an influx of counterfeit goods, particularly in the high-stakes world of designer handbags. Fashionphile has doubled down on its commitment to authenticity, integrating advanced technology and rigorous standards in its operations to educate and empower customers to make informed purchases.

This year, Fashionphile’s customers showcased their increased appetite for high-end goods, spending ten percent more per purchase on average compared to last year, the report notes. The label also expanded its luxury brand lineup, adding names such as Khaite, The Row, Jacquemus, Phoebe Philo, Chrome Hearts, Rimowa, Loro Piana, and Tag Heuer to its directory. With a comprehensive selection of ultra-luxury accessories, Fashionphile continues to make coveted pieces available to a broader audience, underscoring the brand’s mission to democratize access to high-end fashion.
Trends in designer demand
Fashionphile’s 2024 report highlights a shift in consumer preferences, with brands like Loewe seeing an uptick in demand. Loewe’s Puzzle Bag unit sales surged by 58 percent this year, while searches for Chanel’s “East West” silhouette spiked an astounding 333 percent. The report also notes a revival of structured, office-ready accessories, such as the Fendi Sunshine tote, which saw an 18 percent increase in sales as corporate-inspired fashion trends like “Corpcore” continue to gain traction on social media.
The report reveals a notable shift in color trends, with blue overtaking pink as the top hue on Fashionphile’s platform. While pink remains popular — searches including “pink” are up 51 percent from last year — blue emerged as the leader, outpacing pink by 24 percent in 2024 sales. Following blue and pink, red, green, and purple rounded out the top five colors.
Another standout trend in the report is the rise of statement jewelry, driven largely by Gen Z shoppers’ preference for vibrant, eye-catching pieces. Bold earrings led the charge, with sales up by 24 percent in 2024. Multi-strand necklaces have also gained traction, showing a 15 percent year-over-year increase, as customers embrace layering. Additionally, the allure of yellow gold endures, with Fashionphile’s yellow-gold fine jewelry sales growing by ten percent this year, primarily driven by large, statement-making earrings, which saw a 37 percent spike in demand.

Luxury watches continue to be a top-selling category at Fashionphile, particularly among Gen Z women, whose enthusiasm for high-end timepieces is helping drive growth in the market. The brand’s data shows that searches for Cartier watches soared by 104 percent this year, with particular interest in the Cartier Panthere and the Omega Seamaster Diver. The TAG Heuer collection also saw a notable uptick in popularity, with searches up 278 percent, a reflection of the brand’s reinvigoration under the leadership of CEO Frédéric Arnault, now at the helm of LVMH Watches.
As the appeal of pre-owned watches grows, Fashionphile has experienced a 60 percent surge in classic watch sales, with smaller case-size and bracelet-style watches also on the rise. This echoes a broader trend in which consumers are increasingly drawn to unique, vintage pieces that exude a sense of timeless sophistication.
2025 trend forecast
Fashionphile’s trend forecasting tools reveal that Western-inspired styles are set to dominate the ultra-luxury market in 2025. Searches for fringe details increased by 39 percent year-over-year, reflecting a collective fascination with rugged, Americana aesthetics. Additionally, turquoise jewelry — a hallmark of Western-style — saw an eleven percent sales increase. “Cowboy-core” will continue to captivate shoppers, the label says, noting that fashion’s love for cowboy-inspired styles is only growing stronger.
Another trend on the horizon is a revival of sophisticated, classic elegance, epitomized by the refined, feminine style popularized by icons of the mid-20th century. This aesthetic, inspired by Ryan Murphy’s series Feud: Capote Vs. The Swans, has spurred a resurgence in pearl jewelry, which saw a 29 percent increase in searches. Consumers are returning to timeless elegance, with Fashionphile predicting an enduring demand for pieces that channel this polished style.
