Fruit Infused Water, 5 Ways

Share

These infused water recipes from Radnor Splash will keep your Stanley Tumbler full and your #WaterTok game in check while providing a tasty, hydrating alternative to plain water or sugary fizzy drinks.

Drinking lots of water is essential to staying hydrated. It’s the impetus behind the controversial #WaterTok TikTok trend where TikTokers add syrups, flavors, and, often, sugars to their water in an effort to boost hydration.

There are some legitimacies to the trend; some users have undergone gastric surgery, which makes sparkling drinks off limits. Adding flavors, enthusiasts say, help them to stay hydrated.

“The whole world is trying to drink more water,” Tonya Spanglo, believed to be the TikToker who started the trend, told The New York Times. “This is just a fun way to do something that we’re already doing,” she said. Spanglo, 45, had weight-loss surgery three years ago.

While switching from soft drinks to plain water can be a big shift, syrups and sweeteners isn’t the healthiest option, either.

There is another way: try infusing your with fruit and herbs for added flavor. Infused water is a great way to up your water intake, flush out harmful toxins from the body and boost your metabolism.

Fruit waters also make good mixers for cocktails and mocktails, especially with sustainable spirits. Plus, they’re perfect for your #WaterTok videos.

Prep Time 10 minutes

Ingredients

  • 1.2 liters water
  • 1 cup ice cubes

Orange and Passion Fruit

  • 1 orange, thinly sliced
  • 2 passionfruits, seeds and pulp removed
  • 4 sprigs basil

Lemon and Lime

  • 1 lemon, thinly sliced
  • 1 lime, thinly sliced
  • 6 sprigs of mint

Apple and Raspberry

  • 2 apples, sliced into quarters
  • ½ cup raspberries, halved

Watermelon and Mint

  • 2 cups watermelon, deseeded and cut into square cubes
  • 6 sprigs of mint

Forest Fruits

  • ½ cup strawberries, halved
  • ½ cup raspberries, halved
  • ½ cup blackberries, halved

Instructions

  • Use frozen fruits to make your infused water extra cold and refreshing in the summer.
  • To get the most flavour in your water, let your fruits infuse for at least 3 hours in advance. The flavours will have more time to infuse into the water if you let it sit for a longer period of time. If you prefer a strong flavour, allow the fruits to infuse in the water overnight before drinking.
  • You can eat the fruit after infusing water. However, just be aware that since the fruit is releasing flavour into the water, it will have less flavour and more water in it.
  • If you don’t want to wait for fruity-flavoured water, you can purchase ready-chilled fruit-infused waters online or at your local supermarket. However flavoured waters can have a surprisingly high amount of sugar, so be sure to check the label and choose a sugar free option.
  • Fresh infused water can be stored covered in the refrigerator for about six days.
