Ganni Commits to Protecting Climate-Critical Forests Through New Canopy Partnership

Ganni and Canopy’s collaboration represents a pivotal moment in the fashion industry’s efforts to reduce its environmental footprint while promoting innovative solutions that protect some of the world’s most important natural resources.

Danish fashion and lifestyle label Ganni has unveiled a significant initiative aimed at safeguarding climate-critical forests by ensuring that its textiles and paper packaging are free from fibers sourced from these vital ecosystems. This commitment comes via a new collaboration with Canopy, the solutions-driven non-profit organization focused on forest conservation.

“Ganni is thrilled to join the CanopyStyle and Pack4Good initiatives as part of our ongoing effort to become the most responsible version of ourselves. We’re proud to collaborate with Canopy in leading a supply chain revolution that ensures the world’s most vital forests remain intact,” Lauren Bartley, Chief Sustainability Officer at Ganni, said in a statement.

The fashion industry has long been associated with environmental challenges, particularly through the extensive logging of forests for paper packaging and fabric production. Each year, more than 3.4 billion trees are felled to produce materials such as viscose and packaging. By joining forces with Canopy, Ganni aims to address this issue head-on by becoming a CanopyStyle and Pack4Good partner, dedicated to removing sourcing from Ancient and Endangered Forests from its supply chains.

In addition to eliminating harmful sourcing practices, Ganni is also committed to advancing the development of low-carbon, circular alternatives. These include textiles made from recycled fabrics and packaging derived from agricultural residues. This initiative aligns Ganni with more than 550 fashion brands and retailers that have adopted CanopyStyle policies, collectively representing a market value exceeding one trillion dollars. Additionally, 444 brands worth $249 billion have pledged their commitment to the Pack4Good program.

Ganni’s commitment to environmental stewardship is further underscored by its status as a B-Corp-certified company. The brand has set an ambitious target of achieving a 50 percent absolute carbon reduction by 2027, using 2021 as a baseline. Materials innovation and responsible sourcing are central pillars of this strategy, and the partnership with Canopy marks a crucial step in Ganni’s ongoing efforts to mitigate its environmental impact.

Nicole Rycroft, Founder and Executive Director at Canopy, also emphasized the significance of this partnership. “By joining the CanopyStyle and Pack4Good initiatives, Ganni aligns itself with fashion’s most progressive players. Together, we have the potential to scale low-impact, Next Gen Solutions to preserve forests and transform the environmental impact of the fashion industry,” she said.
