Leonardo DiCaprio-backed Vrai has launched Bitcoin Diamonds, pairing lab-grown stones with direct Bitcoin backing, reshaping the future of luxury jewelry through sustainability and digital scarcity.
The Leonardo DiCaprio-backed lab-grown diamond brand Vrai has introduced Vrai Created Bitcoin Diamonds, positioning itself at the intersection of luxury, sustainability, and digital assets. Buyers of a Vrai Created Bitcoin Diamond pay the market price of a comparable mined stone; the difference above what a lab-grown diamond costs is allocated toward purchasing Bitcoin, secured with a regulated custodian. That allocation is recorded on the diamond’s certificate, binding the digital asset to the physical stone. Owners, or their heirs, may redeem the Bitcoin value at any time by returning the diamond with its certificate.
“Diamonds have historically represented both meaning and security, but mined stones no longer deliver on that dual promise,” Mona Akhavi, President of Vrai, said in a statement. “By backing our Vrai Created Diamonds with Bitcoin, we restore that sense of enduring value. Linking the timeless symbolism of our created diamonds with Bitcoin’s absolute scarcity and long-term potential, we offer our clients an asset that is both emotionally significant and a true store of value. This is the future of wealth symbolism — lasting worth, made tangible and beautiful.”

The launch underscores how Vrai, the consumer brand of lab-grown diamond producer Diamond Foundry, continues to blur traditional boundaries in fine jewelry. DiCaprio became an early backer of Diamond Foundry in 2015, citing its environmentally responsible practices, and his support has been part of the company’s reputation as a sustainable disruptor in a sector long dominated by mined stones.
A market shift toward lab-grown diamonds
Natural diamonds have historically symbolized permanence and affluence, yet their reliability as financial assets has faltered. Prices for mined diamonds have dropped about 26 percent since their 2022 peak, while retail prices for lab-grown stones have declined nearly 74 percent since 2020. A three-carat lab-grown diamond can cost just seven percent of its mined equivalent, according to recent data. More than half of engagement rings sold in the U.S. now feature synthetic diamonds, reflecting a generational pivot toward sustainability and transparency.

The global lab-grown diamond market was valued at nearly $23 billion in 2023, projected to reach nearly $75 billion by 2032. Asia-Pacific leads the expansion, representing around one-third of demand, while colorless stones under two carats dominate volume and value. These trends place brands like Vrai in a powerful position to reshape consumer expectations.
Bitcoin meets fine jewelry
The decision to integrate Bitcoin with diamonds draws on the cryptocurrency’s scarcity. Only 21 million bitcoins will ever exist, with nearly nineteen million already issued. Fidelity Digital Assets has described Bitcoin as an “aspirational store of value,” though volatility remains a hallmark of the asset.
Vrai’s innovation is to transform that scarcity into a physical symbol. Its lab-grown diamonds are created over approximately four weeks in proprietary plasma reactors, using carbon drawn from greenhouse gases and powered entirely by renewable energy.

Each stone is tracked with more than a billion data points per carat and registered through GemPrint technology, which records a unique optical fingerprint. That identifier is linked to the Bitcoin allocation on the certificate, ensuring transparency between the digital and physical assets.
Customers pay the mined-equivalent market rate, with the Bitcoin-backed certificate aligning the final value to global industry standards. Through its Cut for You program, Vrai offers more than 30 shapes and direct collaboration with master cutters and polishers, making each diamond a bespoke creation. And with DiCaprio’s association underscoring its sustainable credibility, Vrai Created Bitcoin Diamonds extends the brand’s reputation for innovation into new cultural and financial territory.
