Lucid Comes to Four Seasons Amid Declining Secondhand EV Prices

The Four Seasons and Lucid Group have announced a new collaboration to bring electric vehicle access to Four Seasons’ guests at select properties.

In alignment with their mutual sustainability commitments, Four Seasons and Lucid say their new partnership will bolster sustainable travel at the hotel and resorts’ luxury destinations.

Guests at select Four Seasons properties will be able to reserve a Lucid electric vehicle to explore their surroundings. The concierge team will even offer curated route maps to help guests discover the most scenic and culturally rich areas nearby, giving them the ultimate freedom to craft a personal adventure. For those preferring the comfort of a chauffeur-driven experience, the partnership goes a step further by offering Lucid house cars. Lucid will also provide electric charging stations at participating properties, making the experience seamless for both Four Seasons guests and the local community. These chargers, compatible with a variety of electric vehicle models, ensure that eco-conscious travelers can easily keep their cars charged and ready, whether or not they are driving a Lucid.

“At Four Seasons, we offer guests the very best in both products and personalized services through an unwavering commitment to excellence,” Marc Speichert, Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer, Four Seasons, said in a statement. “We are excited to partner with Lucid to create this new, sustainable luxury experience for our guests.”

Lucid Group’s CEO, Peter Rawlinson, echoed these sentiments, adding, “Every time guests step into a Lucid Air, they will be welcomed by a meticulously crafted interior, elegant design, and a driving experience that is unmatched by any other vehicle on the road today. Through this partnership, the world’s most advanced electric vehicle will now be available as a guest amenity, further enhancing the travel experience at Four Seasons properties across the globe.”

The rollout of this new program is set to begin this fall at Four Seasons locations in the United States, with plans to expand to other properties across North America, Europe, and the Middle East in the near future.

The news comes as the market for secondhand electric vehicles has seen a significant drop in prices, with the cost of a three-year-old EV falling by 25 percent since the beginning of 2023, according to a report from The Wall Street Journal. This drop makes used EVs cheaper than their gas-powered counterparts of the same age.

The reason for this price plunge lies in heavy discounts and low-interest financing deals offered by EV manufacturers to move new models off the lot. As new EVs become more affordable, fewer buyers are interested in used models, leaving dealerships with unsold inventory. This trend contrasts sharply with the situation a few years ago, when used car prices spiked due to supply chain issues and increased demand after the pandemic.

The average price for a used EV now sits around $28,400, down from nearly $40,000 earlier in the year, while gas vehicles have remained steady at approximately $30,000. The price drop has been especially hard on EV owners who financed their cars, with 46 percent now owing more than their vehicles are worth.

In response to these challenges, rental car company Hertz recently sold off a third of its EV fleet, citing higher operational costs and weaker demand among customers.
