Meet the World’s Largest Lab-Grown Diamonds

Share

Greenlab Diamonds is debuting what it says are the world’s largest and most sustainable diamonds grown in a lab.

India-based tech company Greenlab Diamonds says it has produced the world’s largest lab-grown diamonds for its latest collection, “Om Namah Shivay”. The three-diamond collection features diamonds ranging in size from 15.16 carats to more than 27 carats.

The company is showcasing the diamonds at the JCK show in Las Vegas next month.

Diamonds for ‘everyone’

Lab-grown diamonds are for everyone. We believe in cultivating Better Diamonds; sustainable and affordable luxury that nurtures people and the planet,” Sanket Patel, partner at Greenlab, said in a statement.

“Using our expertise and advanced techniques, we have created Om, a Marquise step-cut diamond with a size of 27.27 carats, making it the world’s largest lab-grown polished diamond. Our second dazzler, Namah, is a Pear Rose-cut 15.16-carat diamond that has been beautifully polished, flaunting its beauty to the viewer.” Together, both Om and Namah are the world’s largest lab-grown, polished diamonds with absolutely no colour enhancement, or in other words, they are “As Grown,” Patel said.

The third diamond, Shivaya, weighs in at 20.24-carats, a “masterpiece that exudes charm and elegance,” says Patel.

The launch builds on Greenlab’s commitment to sustainable and conflict-free diamonds. The company, which launched in 2018, says the new collection is a result of its “unwavering commitment and advancement in lab-grown diamond technology”.

Greenlab says the new collection showcases its leadership and record-setting diamonds “year after year.” It says it goes “above and beyond” the current gamut of diamond cultivation “to reinforce care in the public conscience and nurture both people and the environment”—a feat made possible by its use of technology and innovation to push the industry’s boundaries.

Sustainable diamonds

According to Greenlab, its sustainability commitment extends to its factory, which is powered with renewable energy from a 90-acre solar plant that generates more than 24 MW of energy—a move the company says “further cuts down the cost to nature.”

Greenlab is positioning itself as “New Age Farmers” with a closed loop ecosystem of diamond production. It says it does this by growing the lab diamonds as well as cutting, polishing, and designing its own jewelry. “This farm-to-shelf process ensures minimal supply chain issues and optimal quality control,” the company says.

”’Om Namah Shivay’ is just the beginning of better things to come. As the adoption of lab-grown diamonds increases, Greenlab is dedicated to raising the bar with better quality, better sustainability, and ultimately, Better Diamonds,” said Mukesh Patel, Chairman of Greenlab Diamonds.

The lab-grown market has seen a boom in recent years with celebrities including Ashley Graham, Madeleine Petsch, and Leonardo DiCaprio all backing various projects. Kate Hudson and Rachel Zoe both also recently invested in Oscar Massin, a revived 19th-century jewelry label that’s only using lab-grown gems as well as recycled gold and other metals.
