Polestar Says Range Anxiety Is a ‘Thing of the Past’ With New 438-Mile Range EV

Polestar 3’s 438-mile range and Jaguar’s Type 00 concept are reshaping the luxury EV market, blending sustainability, performance, and bold design.

Luxury electric SUVs are no longer just about performance — they’re setting new benchmarks for range and sustainability. The Polestar 3, the flagship SUV from the Swedish electric vehicle innovator, has achieved a certified WLTP range of up to 438 miles in its long-range single-motor variant. This milestone places it ahead of competitors in the luxury EV market while delivering on the brand’s commitment to combining cutting-edge technology with sustainable design. Priced from $89,200, the Polestar 3 is a clear indicator of where the electric vehicle market is headed.

Polestar, headquartered in Gothenburg, Sweden, has quickly become a leader in the EV space. Its portfolio already includes the Polestar 2, an electric fastback; the Polestar 3, a full-size SUV; and the Polestar 4, a sleek SUV coupé. By 2026, the brand aims to introduce five new EVs, including the Polestar 5, an electric four-door GT, and the Polestar 6, an electric roadster. Central to Polestar’s sustainability mission is its Polestar 0 project, which aims to create a completely climate-neutral production car by 2030. This ambitious initiative has positioned Polestar as a key player in rallying the automotive industry toward zero-emission goals.

The Polestar 3 Long Range Single Motor variant uses the same 111 kWh battery pack as the dual-motor version but emphasizes efficiency and range. Its battery system supports a peak charging rate of 250 kW, allowing drivers to charge from 10 to 80 percent in just 30 minutes. “Range anxiety is officially a thing of the past, with all our performance EVs offering over 300 miles (WLTP),” Matt Galvin, Managing Director of Polestar, said in a statement. “This new variant of Polestar 3 not only delivers a class-leading range but offers all the luxury features and comfort our customers have come to expect from the brand, combined with the added convenience of fast charging. We look forward to commencing test drives in the new year.”

Performance remains a key aspect of Polestar’s DNA. The Long Range Single Motor variant powers the rear axle exclusively, producing 220 kW and 490 Nm of torque. This setup allows the SUV to go from 0 to 62 mph in 7.8 seconds while maintaining a balanced ride thanks to a passive damper system with Hydraulic Rebound Stops (HRS) and Frequency Selective Damping (FSD). Like its dual-motor sibling, the Long Range variant features Brembo brakes, ensuring reliable stopping power.

Jaguar 00 concept

Jaguar is also making waves with its unveiling of the Type 00 concept car during Miami Art Week. Dubbed a physical manifestation of the brand’s new creative philosophy — Exuberant Modernism — the Type 00 embodies Jaguar’s shift to an electric-only future. With a design language that pays homage to its storied history while embracing forward-thinking aesthetics, the concept car signals a bold transformation. Its silhouette, marked by a long hood, sweeping roofline, and 23-inch alloy wheels, sets it apart in an increasingly crowded EV market.

Adrian Mardell, Chief Executive Officer of JLR, highlighted the essence of Jaguar’s transformation: “The magic of Jaguar is close to my heart — an original British luxury brand unmatched in its heritage, artistry and emotional magnetism. That’s the Jaguar we are recapturing and we will create the same sense of awe that surrounded iconic models like the E-type.”

Inside the Type 00, Jaguar leans into craftsmanship with materials like brass, travertine stone, and woven textiles, creating a sensory experience it says is unlike anything else on the market. Deployable technologies such as gliding screens and powered stowage areas exemplify the brand’s belief that technology should enhance rather than dominate the luxury experience. Meanwhile, the Jaguar Electric Architecture (JEA) platform underpins the concept, offering a foundation for the brand’s future production vehicles, which include a four-door GT slated for 2025.

“Type 00 is a pure expression of Jaguar brand’s new creative philosophy,” says Professor Gerry McGovern OBE, Chief Creative Officer, JLR. “It has an unmistakeable presence. This is the result of brave, unconstrained creative thinking, and unwavering determination. It is our first physical manifestation and the foundation stone for a new family of Jaguars that will look unlike anything you’ve ever seen. A vision which strives for the highest level of artistic endeavour.”
