Ahead of the 2024 Met Gala, Stella McCartney and Saks Fifth Avenue have collaborated on an exclusive evening wear collection.

Designer Stella McCartney and Saks Fifth Avenue have joined forces for an exclusive eveningwear capsule, coinciding with this year’s Met Gala, themed “Sleeping Beauties”. Dubbed “Stellabration,” this limited-edition lineup revisits iconic red carpet dresses from the renowned British designer’s archives, reimagined in midnight hues, complemented by crystal-adorned vegan accessories, including the celebrated Falabella bag and Elsa kitten heels.

“It makes me a bit emotional to see some of our most iconic Stella red carpet gowns and Falabella bags brought to life again, and to get to share with the world the opportunity to wear these rare, precious pieces, too,” McCartney said in a statement. “It’s a true reminder that beautiful, timeless fashion never goes out of style and is true sustainability.”

Tracy Margolies, Chief Merchandising Officer at Saks Inc., called the collaboration a “celebration of iconic luxury fashion, timed perfectly to fashion’s biggest red carpet.” Margolies says the department store worked with McCartney to reimagine some of her most memorable red carpet looks from over the years for this limited-edition ‘Stellabration’ capsule. “We are honored that Stella chose Saks to bring this special collection to life, and are excited to deliver fashion our customers can’t find anywhere else through this exclusive collaboration.” To mark the launch, the Saks flagship in New York will dedicate its Fifth Avenue windows to the collection. Visual installations highlighting the capsule will adorn the main and third floors until May 18, offering an immersive experience for fashion enthusiasts.

The collection features standout looks, including high-necked column dresses adorned in transparent, lead-free crystal mesh, inspired by a custom Stella McCartney creation worn by Julia Garner at the Met Gala 2021. Also included is a figure-hugging, long-sleeve gown crafted from soft blue forest-friendly viscose cady, reminiscent of a Beyoncé ensemble from the Vanity Fair Oscar Party in 2015. The capsule showcases white gowns draped in cascading cady with lead-free crystal halters, alongside asymmetric scarf dresses in forest-friendly viscose satin. Vegan accessories, such as lead-free crystal embellishments adorning Elsa kitten heels and Falabella bags, feature recycled brass and recyclable aluminum chains, as well as recycled satin bases.

This year’s Met Gala’s hosts are Zendaya, Bad Bunny, Chris Hemsworth, and Jennifer Lopez. The event, put on by Vogue, is a fundraiser for the Metropolitan Museum’s fashion wing, had been clouded by union disputes at Condé Nast, Vogue’s parent company (it also owns Bon Appétit, GQ, and Vanity Fair). Union members threatened to protest the star-studded event, but earlier today, Condé Nast says it struck a deal with unions, which will avoid picketing at the event.

The Stella McCartney-Saks collection comes on the heels of McCartney’s recent Earth Day efforts, including what the label says is its most sustainable collection to date, with more than 95 percent of the collection made from sustainable materials such as organic cotton and upcycled materials. Promoting the collection, the label said it “hopes for a more circular future and the sustainable solutions being advanced by Stella, whilst raising awareness for New York’s groundbreaking Fashion Act bill,” which would force transparency for large fashion labels.
