These 5 Sustainable Style Tips Will Take Your Menswear Up a Notch

Share

Bring a little extra to your menswear game with these sustainable style tips.

There’s no denying that fashion culture is way different for menswear than it is for womenswear. And as the lines between gender are beginning to soften, so to are the fashion rules and expectations.

Aside from the fact that different things trend between the two dominant fashion norms, there’s also the fact that men’s fashion is treated as a lot more optional. As such, it might not be such a surprise that anyone wearing menswear can find the style a little on the lifeless and boring side. However, that doesn’t mean that you can’t liven it up with the following tips.

1. Embrace minimalism

A lot of guys like the minimalist look. Whether going casual, formal, or some mix of the two, minimalism is one of the most popular styles because men are taught early on to embrace practicality and avoid ornamentalism. However, minimalism well means understanding how a few pieces work together. This can mean incorporating tips such as color matching more effectively or how to accent outfits with secondary colors, you can make sure minimalism is not mistaken for blandness.

2. Find a good tailor

If you spend a lot of time in a suit, then you want to make sure that it looks good. Tailors fit the suit to the proportions of the person wearing it, which can do a lot more to play up the strengths of your figure and make sure that the jacket or pants don’t look like they’re just hanging off. A well-tailored suit can be a huge confidence booster, too. Plus, your tailor can help with repairs so you’re not tossing out suits for minor wear and tear. Keep up with the mending on classic styles so they last.

3. Add some bling

You might already be used to using little pieces of jewelry to add some flash and contrast to your outfit but it’s safe to say that a lot of guys really are not. But a bit of jewelry can brighten up outfits. Think simple and timeless, such as solid metal bands, basic rings, and gold chains, which can unlock a whole new aspect of fashion.

4. Layer with accessories

There are plenty of accessories outside of jewelry that you can use to improve an outfit, as well. If it’s a sunny day, then the right pair of sunglasses can add plenty of charm (and practicality), even if they’re tucked away in the front pocket. Ties don’t have to be stuffy or boring, either. They can be playful and whimsical, offering pops of color that layer into the outfit for a clean and chic look. And don’t forget the watch. It’s a timeless style must.

5. Cycle the closet

A lot of men tend to find their favorites and stick with them. If something works, they’re going to rely on it time and time again. That’s not necessarily a bad thing; it’s the backbone of a minimalist wardrobe. However, you can make sure that this doesn’t result in an overly boring look. The old adage, “shop your closet” is true for men, too. Start by hanging up more clothes and literally cycling the items through so that everything gets prominent time, encouraging rotation.
